BRICS Must Remain Reformist, Not Revolutionary
Brazil champions a BRICS focused on reforming the existing global order through a multipolar, rules-based system. It fears that rapid expansion, especially with 'avowedly anti-West' members like Iran, could dilute the bloc's cohesion and push it towards a confrontational, 'revolutionary' path that destabilizes global peace and prosperity.
Reform, Not Revolution
Brazil advocates for BRICS to push for gradual reforms of global institutions, such as the UN Security Council, rather than an abrupt dismantling of the Western-dominated order. This approach seeks to establish a more equitable, multipolar world based on rules and international law.
Maintain Cohesion
Brazil opposed the recent expansion of BRICS, particularly the inclusion of Iran, out of concern that adding overtly anti-Western members would undermine the bloc's unity and common purpose. A diverse membership requires a shared vision for effective cooperation.
Rules-Based World
Brazil's foreign minister stated that a multipolar world must not be confused with one based on spheres of influence. The bloc should promote international law and cooperation over power politics or ideological confrontation to ensure global peace and prosperity.
